Faculty

The Academy’s faculty bring an infectious enthusiasm to their topics of expertise:

Anne Craner

Anne Craner, the Academy’s foreign language teacher and Kindermusik teacher, earned her BA and MA in art history at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris. She is fluent in English, French, and Spanish. From 1983 to 1996 she was a research associate in the Department of European Paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and was a curator at The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. She has been the Spanish teacher at Old Town Montessori since 1999.

Donna Rathe

Donna Rathe, ballet teacher, earned a BA in theater and education and has worked in the arts in the Washington, DC, area for almost 30 years. She is cofounder and managing director of Tiny Dancers™, an award-winning dance program designed for children. Tiny Dancers™ was voted “Best Ballet Studio” in 2003 and 2004 in Washington Families Magazine.

Blair Swanson

Born and raised in Houston, TX, Blair is a graduate of College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, where she majored in early Childhood education with an emphasis in studio art. Blair has taught art for a variety of ages including age 3 to 12. Blair has had a life-long interest in art through travels and her family's active collection of art. Blair is currently teaching at the Capital Hill Art Workshop, Washington, DC.

Caroline Kenney

Caroline Kenney, drama instructor, has been teaching children for more than a decade. She is currently a teacher in Classika Theatre's Studio in Arlington, Virginia. Caroline was an educator for the Richmond Children’s Museum and served as Director for summer theater camps for Herndon Parks and Recreation. Besides teaching, Caroline is a professional actress and a puppeteer with the Green Parrot Puppet Theatre of Classika Theatre. She received her BFA in music theater from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA.
